THE PROJECT
Currently, UK network operators provide 24-hour emergency call-out teams for faults and patrol their networks throughout the night in storm season or where potential damage has occurred on their network. These operatives will carry torches and wear different types of head torches and hi-visibility clothing. These types of safety equipment have its benefits but lack true visibility when the operative is working alone or working near roads where there is no street lighting.
Our project was to source a new type of headlight that could;
- Be worn with all types of hard hats
- Improve safety and visibility
- Increase the field of view
THE APPROACH
The project included a 4-week field trial of a new product to the UK ‘The Halo™’ we issued two units to our CAPTURA Surveying & Inspection team in Scotland. Each inspector was giving a brief and overview of the product and instructed to test the device in four scenarios which included;
- Carrying out a pole inspection
- Working within a team
- Walking across ground
- Visibility on roads
